The iPod Shuffle

The Apple Computers, Inc. iPod Shuffle is the latest product in the line of audio equipment, and is manufactured by same company that invented the Macintosh computers. The Shuffle comes equipped with two storage capacities, a capacity of 512 Megabytes or a capacity of 1 Gigabyte USB Flash drive. The music player can hold approximately 120-240 songs in a 128 Kbps ACC format. The iPod Shuffle can also play MP3 and WAV files.

The size of this device is truly remarkable as Apple Computers reports that it is no bigger than a pack of gum and weighs only 0.78 ounces. It is measured to be 8.5 centimeters long, and 0.85 centimeters thick. The iPod Shuffle is great for people who exercise as it has a white lanyard rope attached to it in which it can be used to hang the iPod from the neck.

Your favorite songs can be downloaded from a computer using a USB port on the device when the rope is removed. The USB port has a dual function of providing power to the device and being used to transfer songs.

The iPod shuffle can also be used to store regular data as well just like a regular portable USB port. It can also run on battery power, providing 10-12 hours of continuous play.

The music player has a superb sound quality that ranges from 20 to 20,000 Hz and comes with headphones included. However, unlike the other players in this category, the iPod Shuffle has no display screen, which sets it apart from the others. In the front is included the normal play button in the center along with a pause function. The front also has the Forward, Previous, Volume Up and Volume Down buttons as well. On the back of the iPod Shuffle is a switch that can be slid across to the Shuffle, Repeat and Off positions. Also on back and below this switch is the button to indicate how much battery power is left. When pressed a light will glow red when the battery power is low and will soon need changing, green for a full battery, and yellow for medium amount of battery power left.

The iPod Shuffle actually gets its name from the Shuffle feature. Since there is no display screen for the music player, music has to be listened to by pressing the forward or previous button, or if the person wishes, they can shuffle their tunes and listen to whatever happens to be playing. The iPod Shuffle is well suited to someone who does not need a display screen on a device for them to know what music they are listening to. Or if you prefer, you can play your songs in sequential order and skip the shuffle.

The iPod is indeed a great music player especially with its impressive size that can hold over a hundred songs. The ease and simplicity of its design makes it easy for just about anyone to learn how to use it. The iPod Shuffle retails in the United States for $99 for 512 MB and $129 for the 1 GB models.
