The Mac Mini

The Mac Mini is a "stripped down" desktop computer designed by Apple Computers, Inc. It is referred to as being "stripped down" because it is not sold with any peripherals. Therefore, it is bought without a monitor, keyboard, or mouse. On viewing the Mac Mini, it looks about the size of an external hard drive or a portable DVD player and weighs approximately 1.4 kilogram. The size of the Mac Mini is remarkable. It has measurements of 6.5 inches in length, a width of 6.5 inches as well, and a height of 2 inches. So it is a surprise to imagine that something that small is a fully operating desktop computer.

The Mini was released to the consumers in January 2005. It has a white finish similar to that of the original Apple iPod, and comes with a 1.4 Gigahertz G4 Macintosh processor, and memory of 256 Megabytes of RAM. The hard disk you can buy with the Apple Mac Mini is either a 40 Gigabyte or an 80 Gigabyte capacity. The Mac Mini runs the popular Macintosh OS X operating system. However, it does have other software included with it. The software that is included with the Mac Mini is the popular iLife Suite 2005. It has software a Macintosh user could want with the latest versions of iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, and iTunes.

The Mac Mini computer has an aluminum case, and in the front of this desktop, there is a CD/DVD-RW drive. It also contains built in computer speakers. When viewed from behind, the Mac Mini computer has the standard ports you are accustomed to seeing on a Macintosh computer such as a Firewire socket and 2 USB connectors. You can connect a monitor to the DVI connector located at the back as well. Other ports of interest located in the back of the MAC mini desktop computer, are the headphone jack and an Ethernet connection. Surprisingly, the power button is located at the rear as well.

The greatest thing about the Mac Mini computer is that it reduces the costs needed to buy peripherals. If you were a previous Macintosh computer owner, you can use your old monitor, keyboard, and mouse for your new Mac Mini, instead of having to buy new peripherals.

This computer has been shown to 'boot' twice as fast as the regular personal computer, and the hard drive in the machine is so quiet that you will doubt that it is on. This Macintosh computer is also equipped for wireless peripherals using Bluetooth. You can use a wireless mouse, wireless printer, or wireless keyboard with it.

The Mac Mini retails in the United States for approximately $450. Another added bonus about this computer is that it can be bought at a price much lower that what the consumer would normally pay for a desktop. The Mac Mini is indeed an outstanding product, and it has been shown to out perform other similar desktop computers with the same specifications, but with a smaller space saving size.
