Call of the Wild: The New Mac OS X Tiger
Apple has come out with a new operating
system known as the Mac OS X Tiger and boy is it fierce. Some
of the great features included
in this new system are Spotlight, Dashboard, Safari RSS, and
iChat AV, among others. I will provide a bit of an overview
on each of the aforementioned programs and show why this operating
system is a force to be reckoned with.
Spotlight is an advanced search component
which utilizes the full potential of your Mac. It is almost
as if your computer is doing all the work for you. Spotlight
enables you to search the whole gambit of your computer including
files, documents, and e-mails, to name but a few, and brings
the results to you in a speedy fashion. Rather than search
each area separately, Spotlight is an inclusive search component
that gets you the results you need in a single search.
Another
feature of Mac OS X Tiger is the Dashboard component. By utilizing
Dashboard you are able to pick up tidbits of information from
the internet, known as widgets, with a click of a button.
If you are the type of person that likes to constantly check
on stocks, weather or flights, then this great feature will
make your day. Its quick and easy to use.
Safari RSS is also included in this operating
system and allows users to access headlines and article summaries
from the internet. It gives you an overview as to articles
which are relevant to your search so that you may weed through
the ones you do not want to read and pull up the ones that
you wish to peruse further. Safari RSS loads pages in a speedy
fashion and has a security feature to it that enables you
to surf the internet safely. Another important safety feature
included within Safari RSS is the parental control feature
where parents can monitor what their children are pulling
up on the computer. These are just a few of the factors that
make Safari RSS a worthy component of Mac OS X Tiger.
One last feature of Mac OS X Tiger that
should be mentioned is the iChat AV. This is a particularly
useful feature for those individuals that utilize video conferencing.
Not only is there a high quality of picture but the audio
feed is wonderful as well. If video conferencing is not your
thing, you may also use iChat AV as an avenue for instant
text messaging. For the parents reading this article, there
are also parental controls available for iChat where you can
restrict who your children are exchanging instant messages
with. This alone is a valuable feature.
The previously mentioned features are only
a smattering of what Mac OS X Tiger has to offer the public.
This operating system lists for about $129 and is worth every
penny.
